Ephesus (Efes)

Ephesus is an ancient Greek city with one of the seven churches of Asia that are mentioned in the Book of Revelation. It is also a UNESO World Heritage Site. It was built in the 10th century BC by Attic and Ionian Greek colonists. During the 2nd century BC, Ephesus was the fourth largest city in the eastern Roman Empire, with a estimated population of 33,600 to 56,000 people. It is famous for its Artemesium (a colossal Ionic temple dedicated to Artemis the fertility goddess), the Library of Celsus and its medical school.

Temple of Hadrian is the most beautiful structures on the Curetes Street. Its opposite is the Terrace House which shows the wealthy life of the rich in Roman period, the mosaics are well preserved and are worth to see even though you need to pay another entrance fee. The Great Theater is the most magnificent structure in Ephesus ancient city which has the capacity of 25,000 seats.

There are concerts held in Ephesus in summer time. It is a great thing to enjoy music in the ancient atmosphere.
