Ephesus & Sirince Tour starts around 09:00, tour bus will pick you up directly from our Villa.
First you will visit The House of Virgin Mary, where it is believed she spent her last days. This is a holy place for both Christians and Muslims. A pilgrimage place for Christians which both Pope Paul VI in 1967 and Pope John Paul II in 1979 have celebrated mass.
Then you will visit the world famous ancient city Ephesus, the most well preserved ancient city in the world. Spending about 2,5 hours to explore some of the best preserved ruins in the world.
You will see the temple of Domitian, The Marble Street, The Trajan’s Fountain, The Mosaic street, The Latrina, The Odeon, Bouleterion, The Temple of Hadrian, The Agora, The Bath of Scholastica, The house pl, The Great Theatre, Harbour Street and The third largest library of the Ancient world; The Celsus Library – 20 minutes extra time in the Terrace Houses that belonged to the richest citizens of the city. Finally you will see one of the largest Roman Theatres in the world with the capacity of 25.000 audience and the Arcadiane – The pretty street lies in between the theatre and the harbour of Ephesus.
After visiting this impressive sites, you will have a lunch break.
After lunch you will visit The Temple of Artemis, which once was one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.
Then you will visit Isabey Mosque. It was built by the architect, ‘Ali b. Mushaimish Dımışklıoğlu, in honor of the Aydinid İsa Bey. The plans for the mosque are based on the Great Mosque of Damascus.
Afterwards you will visit Sirince Village, which is a beautiful old-Greek village on the hill.
It is a village of 600 inhabitants in İzmir Province, Turkey, located about 8 kilometres east of the town Selçuk. Şirince was settled when Ephesus was abandoned in the 15th century but most of what one sees today dates from the 19th century. There is a story that the village was settled by freed Greek slaves who named the village Çirkince (meaning “Ugly” in Turkish) to deter others from following them. The village’s name was changed to Şirince (meaning “Pleasant”) in 1926 by the governor of Izmir Province.
Then you will be transferred back to the hotel around 17:00
